A York-area businessman and a former NFL quarterback will share the spotlight Tuesday, when the York-Adams Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America holds its annual Distinguished Citizen Dinner on Tuesday.

The Scouts' Distinguished Citizen Award will go to Thomas Norris, retired chairman, president and CEO of specialty manufacturer P.H. Glatfelter Co., now Glatfelter. He serves on the boards of several local businesses and nonprofit organizations and was chosen because of his community leadership and service.

Speaking at the dinner will be former quarterback Earl Morrall, who was named the NFL's Most Valuable Player in 1968, when he replaced the injured Johnny Unitas as quarterback of the Baltimore Colts and led the Colts to Super Bowl III. He also led the Miami Dolphins to the team's only undefeated season in 1972, when he replaced injured quarterback Bob Griese. The undefeated 1972 season was one of the highlights of Morrall's 21-season career.

Morrall brings an interesting story that earned him a reputation as the greatest backup quarterback in NFL history, said Kim Hackett, finance executive of the York-Adams Area Council.

"It's something of interest not only to the community, but to the Scouts that are coming," Hackett said.

The event starts 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the York Expo Center's Memorial Hall East. Reservations are still available by calling Kim Hackett at (717) 843-0901. The annual fundraising dinner is in its 20th year, Hackett said.
