DOWNINGTOWN, Pa.—Police in Downingtown say a 15-year-old boy hacked into a school computer recently and got information including Social Security numbers.

The school district says the Downingtown West High School student apparently was just trying to see if he could do it and didn't appear to be plotting an identity theft scheme. School district spokeswoman Pat McGlone says the student had been very cooperative.

Downingtown Police Lt. Steven Plaugher says police plan to issue an update on the investigation Monday.
