HARRISBURG, Pa.—A man who let his scalded and handicapped daughter go without medical help for eight days until she died was sentenced to seven to 14 years in prison Thursday.

Dauphin County Judge Joseph H. Kleinfelter gave the same prison term to Shawn A. Lockett Sr. as was given to his companion, who pleaded guilty to accidentally putting the girl in the scalding bath.

Ten-year-old Quiniece Lockett died last year at her Harrisburg home after suffering third-degree burns over one-third of her body. She was blind and had cerebral palsy, used a wheelchair and could not feed herself.

However, the adults did not call for medical help until they found the girl dead, prosecutors said.

A jury last month convicted Lockett, 33, of third-degree murder, among other charges. LaShawn Brown, 29, pleaded guilty in May.

At his trial, Lockett testified that the burn looked like a sunburn, and that the wounds were bandaged when he saw her between working two jobs.

However, police described the sight of the burns as horrible, and a pathologist testified that a hospital would have administered morphine for the pain.
