The NAMM Foundation announced the results of the ninth annual "Best Communities for Music Education" survey, which includes 110 school districts across the U.S. Central York School Dis trict in York has been designated a "Best Community" for its commitment to provide quality music education programs for its students.
CHRISTIAN SCHOOL OF YORK
Christian School of York students raised over $43,000 in a walk-a-thon for their school.
EASTERN
Incoming Millersville University of Pennsylvania student Eric M. Chronister of York, has been awarded the Susquehanna Engineering & Manufacturing Society -- Gravell Scholarship for fall 2008. He will graduate from Eastern York High School in the top 15 percent of his class of 189 students.
NORTHEASTERN
ARLO Award winners for Northeastern High School for April are: Tiffany Rohrer and Eric Klinedinst. ARLO stands for Achievement, Respect, Leadership, and Opportunity. The awards are given monthly to two seniors who best exemplify the spirit of ARLO.
SPRING GROVE
Tyler Sprenkle, a senior at Spring Grove Area High School, has received a Deans' Award scholarship to attend the Columbus College of Art & Design.

Manuel Jose Feeser
, son of Sterling and Maria Feeser of York, has been selected to attend the Hugh O'Brian Leadership Seminar at Millersville University in May. He is a sophomore at York Suburban High School. Sterling will also participate in the 2008 National Lorenzo de Zavala Youth Legislative Session at Loyola University in Chicago June 29-July 6.
COMMUNITY
Scott Mokris, a freshman homeschooled student and member of the York Homeschool Association, won first place and $100 in the Science Challenge for grades 9-12, at the Johns Hopkins University Physics Fair in Baltimore.

Tricia Baugher and Adam Schreiber, two Susquehannock High School students participated in the "Chalk it Up!" contest held at the West Manchester Mall April 12. Money raised from this event is used to benefit YorkArts' youth art programs. Tricia won the First Place or otherwise known as "Top Chalk" award and received a monetary award of $150.

High School Mock Trial Competitions sponsored by the Young Lawyers Section of the Pennsylvania Bar Association recently concluded and the local winning teams have been declared: York Catholic High School (1st place), West York High School (2nd place) and Central York High School (3rd place).

Posters from 132 middle school students in four York County school districts, were submitted for the 11th annual Poster Contest, from which the York County Bar Foundation's Law Day Committee selected the top three entries. 1st place -- Becky Wiest, 7th grade, Spring Grove Middle School; 2nd place -- Nikki Vlahos, 8th grade, Hanover Middle School; 3rd place -- Allison Seibel, 8th grader, Hanover Middle School. The winning students' posters were displayed at the luncheon and the students were presented with Certificates of Achievement and U.S. Savings Bonds.

Essays on one of five pre-selected topics from 117 high school students in six York County school districts were screened for the top three entries in the 30th annual Essay Contest. 1st place was Lexie Grove, a junior at West York Area High School; 2nd place was Cody Nicholson, a senior from Northern High School; and 3rd place was awarded to Anna L. Seichter, a junior, German exchange student from the Christian School of York. The essay winners were also presented with Certificates of Achievement and U.S. Savings Bonds.
OTHER
Hannah Greenberg , daughter of James Greenberg and Judith Stewart-Greenberg of York, will graduate from Lancaster Country Day School, May 24th.

Four-year-old preschoolers from Aldersgate Parent/Child Preschool Program raised funds for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital with a Trike-a-Thon in April. The preschool has raised over $4,800 in the past four years for St. Jude's.
