The outcome was a surprise.

The margin of victory was a shock.

Littlestown 47, West York 21.

The Thunderbolts spoiled the Bulldogs' bid for an unbeaten regular season grabbed a share of the York-Adams Division II title on Friday night. Littlestown and West York finished with 5-1 records.

"Did I think we could score 47 points?" Littlestown head coach Mike Lippy said.

"No, but I knew we could move the ball."

Littlestown didn't just move the ball, it put on an offensive clinic by racking up 458 total yards (256 rushing and 202 passing).

The Thunderbolts didn't have to punt until the fourth quarter.

"We waited a lot of weeks for this," Lippy said. "The weather never cooperated (with the team's ability to execute its passing game). But we knew we had that crown jewel."

Thunderbolts' quarterback Matt Zuber passed for three touchdowns and ran for two TD's. Sean Doherty rushed for 132 yards.

Mitchell Deaner caught two of the touchdown passes, and Matt Koontz grabbed one. The 6-3 Koontz had five catches, including a one-handed one, for a whopping 132 yards - in the first half.

"He (Koontz) gave us some matchup problems." West York head coach Ron Miller said. "They (Littlestown) were great. They neutralized our speed (on defense) and made big plays when they needed them."

Littlestown never trailed in the game. After the Thunderbolts jumped out to a 14-0 lead, Corey Harris brought the West York crowd to its feet by

returning the kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown.

However, Littlestown wasn't fazed. The Thunderbolts answered with a touchdown in just two plays, a 26-yard reception by Koontz and a 35-yard run by Zuber.

Harris scored the second of his three touchdowns, on a 15-yard run, to again bring the Bulldogs within seven, but Zuber and Koontz hooked up on a 52-yard TD strike to push the advantage back to 14. West York never seriously threatened again.

"This is as exciting as any win that I've been part of," said Lippy who directed the Thunderbolts to the District 3 Class AA championship in 2004. "West York had a 21-game home winning streak, they were the District 3 (Class AAA) champions last year, and they were ranked No. 9 in the state (this year). Our kids will never forget coming here on November 6, 2009."

West York, meanwhile, will have to do something it hasn't to do this year - rebound from a loss. The Bulldogs will have a District 3 playoff game at home next Friday night.

"The only good thing, if there is a good thing about a loss, is it happened now and not next week," Miller said. They're (the West York players) rattled, obviously. Whoever we play is going to be smelling blood. It's my job to help get the guys ready for next week."
