BARNSTORMERS LOSE TO NEWARK: Newark's Keith Reed launched a three-run homer in the sixth inning that broke a 2-2 tie and added an RBI triple in the Bears' 9-5 win over Lancaster on Thursday. The Barnstormers (4-9) left 10 men on base in the first game of a four-game series at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium. Mike Woods extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a single. Lancaster is also 0-7 on the road after starting last season 0-9 away from Clipper Magazine Stadium.

HARRISBURG DROPS THIRD STRAIGHT: Despite managing 12 hits, Harrisburg lost its third straight game to Connecticut, 9-5, at Commerce Bank Park on Thursday. The Senators' skid is their longest losing streak of the year. Roger Bernadina doubled home a run in the first inning and Mike Daniel had a RBI single in the second, but the lead was short-lived. The Defenders answered back with six unanswered runs. Daniel added a two-run homer in the ninth for Harrisburg (20-13).

DOVER GRAD HON ORED: Dover High School graduate Jess Christ was selected to the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Second Team in softball. Christ is a senior second baseman at Mansfield University. She led the Mountaineers and was third in the PSAC in hitting (.400). She led the Mountaineers in hits (36), doubles (seven) and tied for the team lead in RBIs (14). Her .400 average is the ninth best in school history. CHRISTIAN SCHOOL OF YORK FALLS IN GIRLS' SOCCER: The Christian School of York girls' soccer team suffered a 10-1 loss to Harrisburg Christian on Thursday in a Commonwealth Christian Athletic Conference semifinal match. Sabrina Diehl scored CSY's lone goal, while Rachel Allen got the assist. Hannah York and Lizzy Blair combined for 20 saves in goal for the Crusaders. CSY will take part in a play-in-game on Monday for a spot in the District 3 Tournament.

TRACK ADDITION: Central's Katie Craven is top seeded in two events (200 dash and 400 dash) going into Friday's York-Adams Track and Field Meet. Craven's name was inadvertently omitted from a list of athletes who hold No. 1 seeds in two events.

RODDICK, BLAKE, FE DERER ADVANCE: Andy Roddick and James Blake advanced Thursday to the quarterfinals of the Rome Masters, marking the first time in six years two Americans reached the final eight. Roddick silenced a partisan crowd with a 7-6 (5), 6-3 win over Simone Bolelli of Italy, and Blake rallied past Fernando Verdasco of Spain 5-7, 7-5, 6-2. Top-ranked Roger Federer defeated towering Ivo Karlovic 7-6 (4), 6-3.

HENIN UPSET, SERENA ROLLS: Top-ranked Justine Henin was upset by Dinara Safina 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 Thursday in the third round of the German Open. Serena Williams breezed to her 17th straight win, ousting Agnieszka Radwanska 6-3, 6-1 to reach the quarterfinals.

JUDGE ORDERS VICK TO PAY BANK $2.4 MIL LION: A federal judge ordered imprisoned quarterback Michael Vick to repay more than $2.4 million to a Canadian bank for defaulting on a loan. The Royal Bank of Canada sued Vick in September, arguing his guilty plea to a federal dogfighting charge -- and the resulting impact on his career -- prevented him from repaying the loan.

McGINEST TO RETIRE AFTER '08 SEASON: Cleveland Browns linebacker Willie McGinest says the 2008 season will be his last. McGinest told SI.com that he wants to finish his career on one last playoff run. McGinest, who played 12 seasons and won three Super Bowls with the New England Patriots, signed a three-year, $12 million contract with the Browns in 2006.
