GAMES OF CHANCE
Upgrade the law
The states law on small games of chance, under which social clubs and local volunteer groups operate is from the 1980s. Upgrading the law will allow local community groups and social clubs to serve their communities with the costs of a 2008 economy.

But state Sen. Gib Armstrong, R-York and Lancaster counties, and the Senate Appropriations Committee are under the opinion that small games of chance will hurt gambling income of the state casino system.

Casinos do not have bingo games and other such activities. People that spend $5, $10 or $20 at the local social club or fundraising bingo game are not going to travel to Grantville's Hollywood Casino to spend that $5 to $20.

The upgrade is necessary to maintain a steady stream of income to support community activities.

Armstrong has kept the bill in committee and not released it to the Senate for a vote. He is too busy to release the bill. It's amazing that his committee had time to revise the casino bill in 72 hours from 33 lines to 147 pages, but can't release a bill which passed the House by an 87 percent majority.

How does one person gain so much power that the elected officials representing the people of Pennsylvania are never given the chance to vote yea or nay?

Come on Gib, let the Senate vote.
